Nossaman LLP’s own Steven P. Quarles and Brooke M. Wahlberg are co-chairing CLE International’s upcoming 2nd Annual MBTA and BGEPA: Hot Topics in Avian Protection conference. This timely, in-person CLE will explore the complexities of federal wildlife laws and rules to protect migratory birds and eagles under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (BGEPA). Speakers will include state and federal policy makers, industry leaders, environmental advocates, and leading practitioners in the field. Held in Denver, Colorado, from November 30 through December 1, the conference presents a unique opportunity for professionals involved in and affected by endangered species issues, rules, and regulations to learn from in-depth presentations on topics including:
- Eagle Incidental Take Permits
- Post-Administration Perspective on BGEPA Permits
- Federal and State Views on Avian Protection
- Raptor Nest Buffers
- Expanding Renewables and Saving Birds
- Eagle Nest and Disturbance Permits
- Interstate Pipeline Construction
- Enforcement Actions under MBTA and BGEPA
- Electric Transmission and Distribution Systems
The featured presentation entitled Post-Administration Perspective on Eagle Act Permits: The MBTA and Where Conservation and Economic Progress Go Next will be given by Timothy Male, Executive Director, Environmental Policy Innovation Center, Washington, DC. Mr. Male has 15 years of experience working on national policies that create more innovative, effective, and incentive-focused approaches to wildlife conservation, drought response, conservation finance, and agricultural stewardship. He served at the White House Council on Environmental Quality from 2014-2017, as Associate Director for Conservation, Vice President for Policy at Defenders of Wildlife from 2010 to 2013, as Director of Wildlife Conservation at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and as Senior Ecologist at the Environmental Defense Fund.
The conference enables attendees to earn up to 12 Hours of MCLE Credit, Including One Hour of Ethics, and will be a valuable educational experience for anyone who has any involvement with the federal wildlife laws on avian species.
